Budget Day: Third Year of Recommended Cuts by the Administration for International Affairs Account

This Monday, the Administration released its recommended budget for FY20 funding. Once again, as in the previous last two years, they recommended draconian cuts to the International Affairs Account, which as a reminder, represents only 1 percent of the entire U.S. Budget.

For FY20, they recommended a 24% cut overall for the International Affairs Account.

What does this mean for our work?

  • Nutrition has a recommended cut of 45% from the FY19 enacted funding which includes the wonderful increase this year of $20M.

  • Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria has a recommended cut of 29% from FY19 enacted funding. Please see our partner’s, Friends of the Global Fight, press release here for their response to these drastic cuts which do not represent the U.S. Global Fund replenishment pledge.

Once again, we will be working with Congress to enact strong funding levels to make sure that the U.S. will continue to lead in global health, saving the lives of millions worldwide. We welcome you to join us.
